Relationships can be a fickled thing, an emotion that far reaches the means of understanding love. In all our imperfections somehow we can make it work. It’s that twinkle of eyes half-lid glances, that smile that ignites sparks. A little more in this free verse poetry and digital art piece.

…Withered Pink Rose…

I don’t know if I am the pink rose,
Withered, and thirsty,
And broken in more places,
then I could be whole.
And you are the water,
which seeps through to my roots,
And reviving my beauty again.
Or if I am the water
and you’re the withered rose,
that is too scared to toss
aside dried petals and leaves
and be bathed in my quenching
until you forget that you,
were ever broke in the first place.
I don’t know, and I don’t think,
I will ever know.

Poetry – Pressed Words & Flowers

In this free verse poetry “Pressed Words & Flowers.”

Oh, the stories we could spin, tales that go way back when. Funny how we think our meager little lives don’t mean nothing. But yet to another, they are fascinating tales of adventure and freedom. Spinning a free verse poetry and paint brush in this piece.

You do hold more stories,
than dead flowers pressed
between pages where you’d
Scribble thoughts across time.
Preserved of musty fragrance
And your right to share them.
But what’s the use of parched paper,
when can words
like matches set a fire?
Or perhaps it’s simply primal
to be who you’re right now.
Existing as we know you
without the need to tell us how.
There will come a day
we’ll peel back the pages
of time, and of the tales
you’ve lived and left behind.
And when of telling your stories
of life untold.
Will make one think
of a fallen star and the beauty,
And shimmer of its light, it holds.

The ocean has a beat of its own, love hearing the crashing of waves against rocks, the seabirds in the air singing their song. And under the waters edge the song of whales.

Water existence.
Rocking an aquatic beat.
Love is in the sound.

Daily Rictameter – Fireflies Dance

In this daily Rictameter verse, “Fireflies Dance.”

It is of the quiet, mystical delights. Nature in the seeing. Being, evolving in a spectacle of sheer silence as it dances before you void of noise. I wonder how many times we’ve crossed it or it us, unnoticed, unseen. Read more below digital art piece.

What is a Rictameter Verse?

From all the poem forms here, I have come to find a new type of poetry it is the Rictameter verse. It is thus far my favorite, it’s quite challenging. But I love challenges.

This poem uses 9 lines in the poem, and strict syllable counts 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 with the first line repeating itself in the last line. This style of writing can be a rhyming sequence or non-rhyming lines.

I am in hopes you’ll enjoy this example of a Rictameter verse I wrote earlier in the day!

… Fireflies Dance …

It was
visible in
the black night these small stars.
A flicker of truth, in the last
Glimmer before dawn. Fireflies, how they danced.
A love song of life. Wings flapping.
A silent harmony.
So beautiful
It was.

Poetry – Puncture Wounds of the Heart

A free verse poetry “Puncture Wounds of the Heart.”

I express love. A piece of poetry for the memories of loved one’s we’ve lost, to always remember their laughter, smiles, experiences forever embedded in our hearts. You are loved and missed. And may you be running through the fields of wildflowers laughing into the sunshine.

He left a puncture wound in my heart.
Mind you, not the kind that you could see red.
It was invisible to a naked eye.
It was gaping, deep inside.
It was dark and gray. It was a sad feeling.
But yet, the sun still shined in blue.
Flowers too, so brilliant that I could tweak a smile.
He didn’t mean to leave me this way.
He tried like hell to stay.
But he was fighting a battle inside,
the kind I couldn’t protect him.
I gave him all my red I could pour,
from one heart to another.
I embraced him, laced him with it.
But it wasn’t enough. It was my sweethearts time to go.
To the heavens above.
I know one day that this puncture wound will close.
And I also know, never completely.
But I can feel the wound is a little smaller.
It’s getting better, cause I can now see stars
in the night skies and see the moon when he smiles in heaven.

Poetry – Lightning Returns a Strike

A free verse poetry, “Lightning Returns a Strike”.

A first kiss is magical, like fireworks, or lightning. Sending tingles to all parts of the body. Do you remember your first kiss, and who it was, in the comment section below, leave me his or her name? For me, his name was Rick. I was 12. It felt like a lightning strike. My body was exploding with volumes of tingles going off like fireworks. So sweet and tender, but yet so explosive. Tell me your experience, I would love to hear about it.

You claimed, there is no passion within you;
You are lightning devoid of electricity.
You shut down feelings under layers of scars.
But I saw an untamed electricity behind
the dark disguise of eyes.
Little did you know that I held fire, smoldering embers,
that coursed through my veins.
And you were shocked when I kissed you,
your lips were seared with pain.
Sparks come from those baby blues.
And eyes wandered over my face too.
and lightning returns a strike.

Poetry – Ever-Changing Dust Storm

A free verse poetry, “Ever-Changing Dust Storm”.

In a relationship, love can be a dust storm. Constant and ever-changing. And when we are together for a long considerable amount of time, love can fizzle out, if we don’t appreciate the fine qualities, the laughter, humor, that have drawn us to each other. You might feel my revelation in this free verse poetry and digital art piece.

She’s an ever-changing dust storm,
a gust of heated summer air,
howling through your window,
kissing you upon your forehead,
she’ll sing in the kitchen,
and she’ll cook up a storm.
Dancing through the cactus blooms,
that mark the end of spring,
But like the heat of summer,
she won’t cease to no one’s call.
Some days she’s a howling wind,
and other days you won’t hear her at all.
There are times you’ll hear her laughter,
Which could give plight to a herd of wild mustangs?
But her quiet can convince you,
that sagebrush will never cease to roll,
She’ll push away sand ripples
and stir the desert floor.
But no, how long you’ve known her
you cannot predict her heat,
There will be days you’ll feel quite silly
for the sunscreen, you didn’t wear,
but with her, there is a comfort even when
you ought to of protecting your skin.

Poetry – Stardust in Her Veins

In this free verse poetry, “Stardust in Her Veins”.

You’ll want to appreciate everything around you. How the moon looks so brilliant with its illuminance, how stars are numbered. How the rain smells like a fresh new start. How the flowers stand out so colorfully, for your viewing. A free verse poetry and digital art piece simulating all this and more.

She was just a girl made of sun and moon.
Who can make flowers bloom
from the light, she holds within.
With every step she takes,
she leaves seeds in her wake.
She’s quiet on the outside,
but sunlight shines through her ribcage.
She’s quite shy, for the Moon only rises when
she tiptoes across the night.
But she’s what sprinkles stars,
in the blackest of a sky.
I’ve heard others say, that there’s stardust in her veins.
And when she hurts, you’ll see shooting stars.
And if you listen when the day is bright,
you can hear her whispering to trees.

Her song is a tender song of nature.
