A free verse poetry, “Lingering Emotive.”
When I am with nature, it’s amazing how certain fragrances or smells bring about memories. Memories of places and things I’ve experienced with people. People that still exist and those who have moved on from life.
I used to go hiking quite a bit when I was younger, it was the stopping in the middle of a trail for a drink of water, or just to make cowboy coffee. Omg! One doesn’t realize what your senses do.
How your senses record every noise, the smell of the aroma of fresh coffee made over flames or the smell of the woods, wildflowers and the dirt under your feet mixed with the dampness of the morning. It was exhilarating to me!
The laughter I would share cracking funny little jokes towards one another, that sweet, lasting kiss on chapped lips parched by the summer’s dry days and now its fall. Simplicity amazing how nature reels it all back like it was yesterday!
Free verse poetry: Lingering Emotive
It was the calm of it, lying there
In a field of wildflowers,
on a hill top and filtering,
through fading memories.
Nature seems to do that to you,
like a sweet unforgettable dream.
Lasting lost, like faces of loved ones,
like a long forgotten love song,
drifting in white clouds, most of all
of how it always brings you back
to reality, back to simplicity,
the clarity of childhood or a girl,
how could a sky so blue be complicated,
wildflowers swaying in a
summer breeze seems to testify
(by their fragrance lingering)
to this emotive.

It’s beautiful! Sometimes you wish you COULD forget the love song, because it continues to break in on thoughts you DON’T want to keep re-living. Sometimes the Lingering Emotive might be something better forgotten, but that just might be me in this current head space.

I kind of think of it differently, in sense all those lingering emotive create this wholeness in me. If I’ve not felt any of it, I would not be here to spill the ink that once was pain, was anger, was bitterness, was sadness, was love. Then now to evolve into something more than yesterday! Yes????

Of course, I agree that we are the sum total of our experiences, both good and bad. I’m usually an optimistic, positive person. However, revisiting places where I once shared moments with significant souls is an opportunity to once again experience those bittersweet times. In reading the poem at a moment of vulnerability, I remembered a few moments that I would prefer to forget. Your poem is beautiful and wonderfully evocative. It caught me in a moment of melancholy. I’m better now.

Hey Linda, I don’t know if you’ve heard of the book, but when I read your poetry, I sense a strong and wise free spirit, who happens to be a woman… The book is called ‘Women who run with wolves’ by Clarissa Pinkola Estés (https://www.amazon.com/Women-Who-Run-Wolves-Archetype/dp/0345409876) who knows it can give you some new inspiration. Thank you for the beautiful poems that you share, I really appreciate your straightforward and grounded vision, and at the same time I can feel your vulnerability: majestic and magical poetry.

I enjoy those moments, even the sad ones. I have no recall of most of my life, so when the gates open and I receive a visit, appreciation abounds.
