A free verse poetry, “All His Black and White.”
In breaths, we speak, oh how shallow words can be. When held on death’s door, life is the window, sometimes barred, or sometimes open if we can see through it. Eyelids open. This little free verse poetry is about my loss of my cat, it gave me a reality of how quickly life can be stolen, or taken from us. In every moment there is value in breathe.
Free Verse Poetry, “All His Black and White.”
I held him…
Him, in all his black
and white.
Small, frail rib cage
of shallow breath,
of limber limbs.
It was all I could do.
To give him his last
resting place,
before death
takes him from me.
I remember,
how he’d wrap tiny paws
around my neck;
Like a fur bearing necklace.
Suckling my earlobes cause
he’d missed his mama.
I didn’t mind; it was cute.
The way he hung from
blue jeans like an
earrings fastened in holes.
That dam antifreeze was
his addiction, the ruination of
tiny kidneys
I watched him,
looking softly at me,
as I caressed
And felt life slipping from lungs.
Eyelids were dark
of lasting love, he’d given.
One last curl of his paw.
Eyes closed.
I held him awhile and cried.
Have sweet dreams,
my precious Booger cat.
I know; you’ll be chasing
butterflies
in a blue and white sky.
I held him. One last time.

A free verse poetry
What is love? an intense feeling of deep affection.
What is a Free Verse Poetry? Typically patterned by speech rather than meter, this form of poetry is very open to the author’s discretion and usually does not rhyme. Visual and sound effects are often employed. It can have as many lines as the writer wishes.

Feels real. If it is, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hurts to lose a loved one even if a dog or cat. For me, a dog. Sad for your loss.

Oh, Linda your poem brought tears to my eye. I have a naughty black and white cat called Rambo who l adore, and his fluffy grey mate Friskie who share our lives. My Mum just lost her beautiful big ginger cat Mr Darcy and is grieving for him. Grief comes in all forms and losing our beloved pets is one form. But if it wasn’t for a shared love of dogs I would have never met my husband walking his on the beach. Take care Linda. Also love your images, so different and vibrant.
